President Bola Tinubu has addressed concerns about potential manipulation by interest groups in his administration’s ongoing economic reforms.

Speaking to Islamic leaders at the State House on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized that his election campaign was entirely self-funded, free from obligations to any individual or institution.

“My campaign was financed solely with my own money,” Tinubu stated. “There were times when the odds seemed insurmountable, with banks shut down, but by the grace of Allah, I became President. Now, my duty is to follow the guidance of the Almighty.”

Tinubu underscored the importance of a clear conscience in leadership, highlighting it as a defense against corruption. He called on citizens to prioritize the future of their children and to instill values of good citizenship and responsibility.

The President also warned against protests driven by anger and hatred, suggesting they could lead to violence and hinder the country’s progress. He revealed plans to revamp the social welfare scheme, extending support to the ward level to directly aid the poor and vulnerable. Additionally, he mentioned initiatives like student loans for education, consumer credit for purchasing cars and houses, and a significant increase in the minimum wage.

“The sponsors of these protests do not have the nation’s best interests at heart,” Tinubu asserted. “They harbor alternative loyalties and convene virtual meetings from abroad. We must avoid turning Nigeria into another Sudan. Our focus should be on addressing hunger, not inciting violence.”

In response, Sheikh Bala Lau assured the President of ongoing support through prayers and efforts to promote peace.

“Peace is essential for our nation,” Lau remarked. “Just as Abraham sought peace and guidance from God, so do we.”
