Ghana’s bid to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations suffered a setback as they were held to a goalless draw by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Despite dominating possession, the Black Stars failed to convert their chances, leaving their qualification hopes uncertain.

Ghana started strong, with Alexander Djiku’s header striking the crossbar in the fourth minute after a well-placed corner from Mohammed Kudus.

However, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Sudan’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Mustafa Ahmed, played a key role in frustrating Ghana’s attack, making crucial saves, including a standout stop from Antoine Semenyo in the 17th minute.

As the match progressed, Sudan’s defense became more compact, limiting Ghana’s chances.

Kudus had another clear opportunity in the 88th minute, but Mustafa again made a brilliant save to maintain the stalemate.

With just two points from three matches, Ghana now faces an uphill battle for qualification.

Their next match against Sudan in Libya on October 15, 2024, is a must-win fixture to keep their AFCON hopes alive.

Coach Chris Hughton expressed disappointment over the team’s lack of attacking sharpness, despite a solid defensive performance led by Djiku and Joseph Aidoo.

The Black Stars are under pressure to deliver a victory in Libya to avoid an early exit from the AFCON qualifiers.
