2027: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso plotting possible merger – PDP
The Deputy National Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has revealed that discussions are ongoing between Nigeria’s three leading opposition figures about the possibility of a merger ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Abdullahi made this disclosure during an appearance on Channels Television’s *Sunrise Daily* program on Monday.
He stated that the discussions involve the presidential candidates from the last election: Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The goal of this potential alliance, according to Abdullahi, is to overcome personal differences and unite forces to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.
Abdullahi expressed that if the PDP had better managed its internal conflicts and maintained unity within its ranks, key figures like former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Kwankwaso, and Obi would have remained in the party. He suggested that such unity might have led to the PDP’s victory over Bola Tinubu of the APC in the last election.
“We’ve lost Kwankwaso, we’ve lost Peter Obi, all of these people; imagine if they were in the party, we would have won the elections.
“This APC said they defeated us with one million plus (votes); just one of these names that I mentioned would have covered that gap for us, and we would have been in power today, and certainly Nigerians would not have been confronted with this despair and despondency in the land,” he said.
