Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on Nigerians to protect the country from becoming a one-party state as the 2027 general elections draw near.

During an address at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo, Makinde emphasized the significance of maintaining a multiparty system for the health of the nation’s democracy.

Addressing speculation about his potential presidential run, the governor dismissed the rumors, assuring the public that any decision regarding his political future would be announced personally.

He added, “We didn’t achieve these things because someone has a presidential ambition. I am old enough to make my own decisions, and if I want to do something, I will say it.”

Makinde also reflected on his political journey, noting that he rose to power in Oyo State in 2019 without relying on political godfathers, a testament to the strength of democracy and the will of the people.
