2027 Presidency: North will make known thier preferred candidate in six months – Baba-Ahmed

Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has said the northern region will soon determine its political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that no presidential candidate can succeed without the North’s backing.
Baba-Ahmed made this declaration during a video interview that gained widespread attention on social media on Sunday.
He appeared alongside Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking boldly, the former presidential aide, known for championing northern interests, said the region is now politically conscious and would no longer support any candidate who fails to understand or respond to its pressing challenges.
“We want a government that understands our problems and can address them,” he said, referring to the prolonged insecurity caused by Boko Haram and other crises that have hit the North regardless of ethnicity or religion.
He criticised the current state of the country and urged northerners to reject politicians who seek to deceive or divide them ahead of the next election.
Baba-Ahmed warned that continued marginalisation of the North could lead to serious consequences.
“If they plan to rig the election, they should be careful. It won’t be good for Nigeria,” he cautioned.
Having stepped down recently from his role in the Tinubu administration, Baba-Ahmed said he made the decision in order to return to the struggle for northern liberation.
Before his appointment, he served as the spokesperson for the Arewa Elders Forum.
He announced that in the coming six months, the North will make its political direction known, stating clearly that the rest of the country would have to either align with the region or choose a separate path.
“The injustice and sidelining must stop,” he declared.”
“The North is watching, and soon, our elders, our masses, and our interest groups will say ‘enough is enough.’”
He stressed that no politician can win the presidency without the support of the North, and the region’s decision will be a key factor in shaping the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
