The Rivers State Police Command has announced that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has honoured his commitment by paying a N100 million bounty to an informant.

This reward followed the successful elimination of Gift Okpara, known as 2Baba, a notorious cult leader implicated in the murder of Divisional Police Officer Superintendent Bako Angbashin in Oduemude.

During a memorial event for the slain DPO at the state police headquarters, Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu confirmed the governor’s fulfillment of the bounty promise.

The commissioner also revealed that Angbashin’s body had been returned to his family.

Disu recounted the events, stating, “On March 25, 2024, our officers neutralized the wanted cult leader during a raid at his hideout in the Idu-Ekpeye community, Ahoada. His body was later discovered in the Ibrass forest, Ahoada West Local Government Area.”

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for keeping his word and rewarding those who provided critical information leading to 2Baba’s demise and the recovery of his concealed body.

He also acknowledged the support of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun throughout the operation.

Angbashin was noted for his significant contributions to law enforcement, including the capture of another notorious criminal, Boboski, which brought peace to the Bori region.

His expertise led to his transfer to the Ahoada Division, where he was tasked with apprehending 2Baba.

Disu added, “Angbashin employed all his skills to capture 2Baba and his gang alive. Tragically, he was killed and dismembered during this mission. Initially, we struggled to recover his remains, but we are now pleased to announce their successful retrieval.”

Dogo, the elder brother of the deceased, accepted the casket containing Angbashin’s remains on behalf of the family and expressed pride in his brother’s service.

He thanked the Rivers State Police Command for their dedication in bringing his brother’s killers to justice and recovering his body.

“I’m here on behalf of the family and the people of Nasarawa State to receive SP Bako Angbashin’s remains. We appreciate the efforts of the Rivers State Police Command and the CP in particular for their relentless pursuit of justice for my brother,” Dogo stated.
