The Nigerian gospel community is mourning the loss of Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, popularly known as Big Bolaji, who passed away on Easter Saturday after a brief illness.
As tributes continue to pour in, here are five key things to know about the late gospel icon:
1. He was a certified estate surveyor
Before fully venturing into gospel music, Big Bolaji was professionally trained and certified as an estate surveyor, a testament to his diverse talents and background.
2. He became a full-time music minister
Despite his academic qualifications, he chose to follow his passion for gospel music and became a full-time music minister, using his gift to inspire thousands.
3. He was mentored by Bishop Francis Wale Oke
Big Bolaji was converted and nurtured at the headquarters of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, under the mentorship of Bishop Francis Wale Oke, which shaped his foundation in ministry.
4. He served as an ordained minister in RCCG for 19 years
He was an ordained minister with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and served faithfully for nearly two decades, contributing immensely to the church’s music ministry.
5. He created the iconic ‘Turn It Up’ gospel event
Big Bolaji was also a renowned concert producer. His event “Turn It Up” became a major praise celebration in Ibadan, drawing large crowds and promoting joyful, impactful worship.
