64 Independence Anniversary: We are winning fight against terriorism, banditry – Tinubu
In a message delivered during his Independence Day speech on October 1, 2024, President Bola Tinubu shared an optimistic outlook on Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry.
He reassured Nigerians that the government is making notable advancements in securing the nation’s peace and stability, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens.
He said, “I want to show you that our administration is winning the war on terror and banditry,” Tinubu declared.
“Our target is to eliminate all threats of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and all forms of violent extremism. Within a year, our government has eliminated many Boko Haram and bandit commanders.”
He went on to provide details of the government’s achievements in combating these criminal elements.
“As of the latest count, over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated by our troops in the North East, North West, and other parts of the country.”
“We have restored peace. Hundreds of communities in the North and thousands of our people are now able to return home,” Tinubu said.
However, he acknowledged that the work is not yet done, calling it “unfinished business.”
“Our security agencies are committed to ending this as quickly as possible. As soon as we can restore peace to many communities in the troubled parts of the North, our families can return to their homes. We expect to see a leap in improved production and a downward spiral in food costs. I promise you we shall not falter on this.”
Tinubu also highlighted the government’s response to recent natural disasters, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to addressing challenges and supporting affected communities.
