A U.S. court has sentenced Tyrese Haspil, a former employee, to 40 years to life for the murder of Fahim Saleh, a tech entrepreneur and founder of Nigeria-based company Gokada.

The 25-year-old Haspil was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges after embezzling from Saleh and committing the brutal crime in 2020.

Saleh, 33, was tasered and fatally stabbed in his New York City apartment by Haspil, who later dismembered the body in a failed cover-up attempt.

Prosecutors revealed that Haspil had stolen around $400,000 from Saleh and carried out the murder to avoid detection.

Despite Saleh’s kindness in giving him a second chance, Haspil continued his betrayal.

The sentencing concludes a heartbreaking case that stunned the tech and business communities, especially in Nigeria, where Gokada had become a symbol of technological progress and youth empowerment.
