Borussia Dortmund secured a 3-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League, with Jamie Gittens’ late double leading the charge in a frenetic encounter.

The match remained goalless until the 76th minute when England Under-21 forward Gittens broke the deadlock. His shot from the edge of the box took two deflections off Brugge defenders before looping into the far corner.

Gittens then extended Dortmund’s lead with a moment of individual brilliance, executing two stepovers in the box before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Brugge’s night worsened in added time when Serhou Guirassy was fouled by Brandon Mechele in the box. Guirassy converted the resulting penalty with a composed chip down the middle to secure the victory.

Despite the seemingly comfortable scoreline, Club Brugge had multiple chances to get on the scoresheet.

Hugo Vetlesen rattled the crossbar from close range, while Raphael Onyedika and Vetlesen forced Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel into key saves.

Hans Vanaken and Christos Tzolis both missed opportunities, leaving Brugge to regret their missed chances as Dortmund took control in the final stages of the match.

The late flurry of goals from Dortmund ensured a solid start to their Champions League campaign, while Brugge will be left reflecting on their inability to convert in front of goal.
