Edo Poll: EFCC arrests suspected vote-buyers in Egor
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended suspected vote-buyers during the ongoing Edo Governorship election.
The arrests took place around 10:00 a.m. in Egor Local Government Area, where two males and a female were taken into custody.
Despite the arrests, some local residents protested, accusing the EFCC of victimizing the individuals.
However, the EFCC maintained that its actions were in line with preserving the integrity of the election process.
“Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the elections. We are committed to the attainment of electoral integrity by ensuring that voters cast their votes democratically without any form of financial inducement,” the agency’s spokesman Dele Oyewale said.
“Vote buying is a financial crime and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere.”
