‘I married to silence critics’ – Jaruma reveals
Controversial self-proclaimed sex therapist, Hauwa Mohammed, popularly known as Jaruma, has opened up about her reasons for getting married.
In a recent interview on the Issues and Society podcast, Jaruma disclosed that the intense backlash she received from northerners for selling aphrodisiacs as a single woman was a major factor in her decision.
Jaruma, who tied the knot with Ross Fahad Isabor in 2018 and divorced in 2021, explained that the criticism she faced for promoting her products as an unmarried woman influenced her choice to marry.
The union, which lasted three years, was blessed with a child before the couple went their separate ways.
The revelation sheds light on the societal pressures Jaruma faced during her career as a seller of aphrodisiacs, particularly within conservative northern Nigerian communities.
“There was massive criticism from the north because I was selling sex products as a single lady. They wondered why people allowed a single lady to teach them what happens in the bedroom for lots of money.
“It wasn’t easy at all. The sex industry is a multi-billion industry, I have made N760 million in 3 years. So I thought the industry would not die and I have a booming business so I can’t just leave because of the heat I was going through.
“I just said if marriage is the problem, let me just do it. I didn’t get married because of love, I got married a month after meeting my ex-husband just to get away from the pressure I got from the north.
“He knew it was not for love but pressure because I told him.”
Recall that Ross Fahad Isabor came out in 2022 to warn Jaruma to stop using his name to sell her “fake products.”
