BREAKING: PDP rejects Edo guber election results, heads to court
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected the results of the recently concluded Edo State Governorship election, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum, made this declaration during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Damagum claimed that the people of Edo State had voted overwhelmingly for the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and expressed disappointment that the electoral results did not reflect that.
He called on INEC to take advantage of the provisions within the Electoral Act to correct what he termed as a flawed process and declare the rightful winner.
The PDP leadership also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with “compromised” INEC officials and the AIG of Police in charge of the zone, of orchestrating a scheme to manipulate the election. Damagum emphasized that the PDP had raised alarms prior to the election about these alleged plans, which he now believes were executed to favor the APC’s candidate.
The party urged INEC to “retrace its steps” and ensure that justice is done in respect to the will of the Edo State electorate.
