Abia to begin new minimum wage payment October
The Abia State Government has announced that it will begin paying the new minimum wage starting in October 2024.
The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday while addressing the press after the State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu emphasized that the new wage will be applicable to all categories of workers in the state.
In addition to this, the government plans to strengthen the administration of justice by constructing 17 court halls, one for each local government area, to improve access to legal services.
Kanu also revealed that the Ministry of Health will be organizing a free medical outreach next week in Ugwunnagbo, which will include consultations, maternal and child healthcare, and free diagnostic tests.
The commissioner further highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting its athletes, announcing that Governor Otti will soon host para-Olympic athletes Miss Onyinyechi Mark, who won gold in the 61 kg category, and Miss Esther Nworgu, who secured a silver medal in the 41 kg class, for making Abia State proud on the national stage.
