The Bauchi State Government has submitted a supplementary budget request of N94.676 billion to the State House of Assembly.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Babayo Akuyam, presented the proposal during Tuesday’s plenary on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.

The budget request, in accordance with Section 122 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is intended to accelerate the execution of key projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Bauchi residents.

The approval of this budget is expected to fast-track various development initiatives across the state.

“The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructural development, human capital growth, and enhancing the health and education sectors,” Akuyam said, quoting the letter from Governor Mohammed.

In addition, the House has also moved to establish a Food Security and Nutrition Committee aimed at addressing hunger and malnutrition in the state.

Presenting the motion, the Majority Leader, Akuyam, stated that the committee would focus on improving the nutritional status of Bauchi citizens, particularly the most vulnerable groups, including women, children, and internally displaced persons.

“The committee’s role includes ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in line with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,” Akuyam added.
