Veteran Nigerian comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, famously known as Alibaba, has opened up about how his wife, Mary, played a pivotal role in their decision to have triplets.

In an exclusive interview on the Leadership podcast, Alibaba shared how Mary’s persistence and enthusiasm convinced him to expand their family.

The couple joyfully welcomed their triplet boys in April 2024, after Mary expressed the desire to adopt children following their two daughters’ departure for studies abroad.

Her unwavering determination eventually led to the birth of their three sons.

“Madam had always wanted to have a son. She had two daughters and we talked about it,” he said.

“So, I told her I didn’t want to be having school runs, joining Wizkid, and attending PTA meetings. One truth is the nest becomes empty when all the children have to go abroad to study and the discussion comes up again.”

According to him, Mary suggested they adopt three children. However, they opted for In vitro fertilization (IVF) instead.

He further stated that his wife suggested they try for two but to their surprise one of the embryos split into two, making it three.

His wife and the doctor were aware that it had turned into three, but they chose not to inform him.

In his words,“They were like sometimes when God wants to bless you, you don’t know how he wants to bless you, he will just do it.”

Alibaba confessed that his concern about raising multiple children at once stemmed from the bad economy.

However, Mary’s reassurances and support helped alleviate his doubts.
