Gov Bago engages in high-level talks at UNGA to drive sustainable development to Niger
Former Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State concluded his participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York with a series of high-level engagements.
At the sidelines of the UNGA session, he took part in discussions with key officials from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
These talks, in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors Forum, focused on critical issues such as health, education, gender inequality, climate action, and urban resilience, as well as the role of digital technology in enhancing productivity and optimizing scarce resources.
During his meeting with Dr. Ahunna Eziakonwa, the UNDP’s Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Africa, Governor Bago delved into potential opportunities for business development, the creation of technology innovation hubs, and technical assistance programs.
He also explored public-private investment strategies to boost Niger State’s economic development across various sectors.
Furthermore, at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) discussion with the Nigeria Governors Forum, key issues like human capital development were highlighted.
The session also focused on incorporating SDGs into sub-national long-term planning and budgeting processes.
Technology and data were emphasized as crucial tools for improving resource allocation and prioritization, paving the way for more sustainable development across the state.
Governor Bago’s efforts reflect a commitment to leveraging international partnerships and technology to drive Niger State’s progress toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
