A tragic incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a lion killed its handler, Babaji Daule.

The library, a renowned legacy of former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, houses a zoological garden that was the scene of this fatal encounter.

According to a report by YOUNEWS on Sunday, September 29, 2024, the incident took place early Saturday morning.

The tragedy unfolded when Daule, the trained handler of the male lion, reportedly failed to secure the locks and barricades of the lion’s enclosure before approaching the cage to feed the animal.

This oversight allowed the lion to escape, launching a fatal attack on Daule, leaving him with severe neck injuries that led to his death.

His body was later transported to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital.

The situation was brought under control when security forces shot the lion to release its grip on the handler.

The Chief Security Officer of the OOPL reported the incident at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the unfortunate event.
