Obaseki vs Shaibu: Tension as Police take over Edo Deputy Governor’s office

Published

on

The office of Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, located on Osadebe Avenue in Benin, was sealed off on Sunday, September 29, 2024, under heavy police surveillance.

Armed officers and a machine gun-mounted truck were stationed at the entrance, restricting access to the premises.

This development follows ongoing tensions between Deputy Governor Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, which had previously led to the relocation of Shaibu’s office from the Government House.

Reports suggest that staff from the deputy governor’s office have been redirected to the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency, and official vehicles, including the Press Crew bus, have been transferred to the office of the Head of Service.

The closure of the deputy governor’s office marks another significant event in the escalating standoff between Shaibu and Obaseki.
