In a devastating incident, Raymond Timothy, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate for Pari Ward in Kaduna State’s Kauru Local Government Area, was tragically killed by gunmen on Sunday evening.

His brother, James Timothy, was also fatally shot during the attack.

The brothers were ambushed while returning from a political campaign in Kizachi Village, Pari Ward, on a motorcycle. Raymond, a father of three with a fourth child on the way, has left behind a grieving family and community.

Barnabas Chawai, a prominent PDP member in the area, suggested the attack could be politically motivated and urged security agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice. The killings have heightened concerns about political violence in Kaduna State.

“Drastic measures must be implemented to prevent further incidents as the October 19 local government election approaches,” he stated.

He said, “The victim had three children, and his wife was pregnant with their fourth.”

John Wanneh, Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, recounted that they were together till around 6 p.m. before parting ways so the victim could return home to Bakin-Kogi.

“It was less than 10 to 15 minutes after we parted that we heard gunshots near some guinea corn farms,” Wanneh said.

He expressed uncertainty over the motive, stating, “We cannot say who committed this crime or if it is politically related.”

Wanneh also appealed to the government to construct a bridge and improve the road for better accessibility during emergencies.

“Security operatives cannot access the village due to the poor road conditions and a river that is impassable, which has been our situation for a long time,” he added.
