The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has extended his solidarity to the victims of the recent flood in Maiduguri during a visit to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi.

This gesture was highlighted in a statement released on Monday by Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, the Oba’s Chief Press Secretary.

During the visit, Oba Ewuare II prayed for the survivors and expressed his heartfelt sympathy for those displaced by the disaster.

The flood, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam following heavy rainfall on September 10, affected over 122,751 people, destroying homes and livelihoods.

The Oba emphasized the need for urgent attention to climate change and environmental degradation, commending the Shehu of Borno for his resilience. He also urged all stakeholders to take concrete steps towards sustainable practices to prevent future disasters.

In response, the Shehu of Borno thanked Oba Ewuare II for his support and presented him with copies of his books. He also acknowledged the efforts of rescue teams and humanitarian organizations in aiding the affected communities.
