Bill establishing Federal University of Agriculture in Osun scales second reading at Senate
The Senate, on Wednesday, moved forward with the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State, as the bill passed its second reading.
Leading the debate, Senate Leader Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti-Central) emphasized that the creation of the university aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy by focusing on agriculture.
Several senators, including Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibrin and Senate Committee on Appropriations Chairman Sen. Solomon Olamilekan, expressed strong support for the bill.
They’ll highlighted the importance of initiatives like this to enhance agriculture and promote technology-driven farming in the country.
“We should have more of this. This is a very important bill, and we should all support it,” Sen. Jibrin urged fellow senators during the session.
