A’Ibom LG Poll: Hoodlums set AKISIEC office ablaze

Just hours before the commencement of local government elections in Akwa Ibom, hoodlums set fire to the State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office in Ibiatuk, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident but assured that no lives were lost and electoral materials were unaffected.

Despite the attack, voting activities continued across the state, though the elections have been marred by logistical challenges. Several polling units, including Unit 001 Ward 14 in Uyo and Unit 2, Ward 11 in Itu, reported the absence of electoral materials and security officials as late as 10:02 am.

The Police Command has since increased security deployment to AKISIEC offices to prevent further disruptions.
