EPL: Man Utd struggle continues with goalless draw against Aston Villa

Manchester United’s winless run stretched to five games after a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park in Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

United came into the match having recorded three draws and one defeat in their last four games, adding to their early-season woes.

Aston Villa, buoyed by their recent 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, could not replicate their European success. Despite both sides having chances, neither team could find the back of the net.

United’s best opportunity came in the 5th minute when Marcus Rashford was denied by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Villa almost responded three minutes later, but Morgan Rogers’ shot only found the side netting.

The game saw an early blow for Villa as Ezri Konsa was forced off with an injury in the 12th minute, replaced by Diego Carlos.

In the second half, Youri Tielemans’ long-range effort in the 56th minute went wide, while Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick hit the crossbar, representing the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.

The draw leaves Manchester United in 14th place with eight points from seven games, marking their worst start to a season since 1989-90 when they finished 13th under Sir Alex Ferguson. Meanwhile, Aston Villa sits 5th on 14 points.
