DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) is the newly appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) since June 2024.

His appointment comes as a follow-up to the dismissal of its former Boss, IGP Solomon Arase (Rtd).

The newly appointed Police Boss has over 32 years of experience in Policing and Security Work.

Here’s what to know about DIG Argungu (Rtd);

DIG. Hashimu, Salihu Argungu (Rtd) was born on 10th July, 1957.

His academic credentials include a Masters of Laws (LL.M), a Barrister at Laws (B.L. ), a Bachelor of Arts Education (B.A.ED), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. ), a Nigeria Certificate in Education (N.C.E. ), and a Grade II Teachers’ Certificate.

He has participated in and attended a number of courses, including Advanced Detective Course, Police Staff College, Jos; Public Corruption Certificate Course, U.S. Department of Justice; Higher Management Certificate Course, ASCON, Lagos; International Banking Laundering Course, Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre, Gaborone, Bostwana; Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Jos; and more.

In 1984, he enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP.

A few of the roles held within the Nigeria Police Force are Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Benin’s Department of Training and Development; Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Command Headquarters; Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Jigawa State; and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Legal and Prosecution Services FCID FHQ Abuja.

On a temporary basis, he also served as the head of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission’s (ICPC) Abuja investigation department (HOD).

He frequently gives talks on security, investigation and intelligence, leadership, professional ethics, and codes of conduct at various state and national forums.

Among the summits are the Lagos-Kano Economic & Investment Summit 2018, where he was a lead discussant and participated in the second annual retreat for the executive council of the Sokoto State government, as well as permanent secretaries and directors at the National Institute for Policy and St.

He retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in 2016.

In June 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed him as the Chairman of the Police service Commision.
