Jhon Duran signs new deal with Aston Villa

Aston Villa has announced that 20-year-old forward Jhon Duran has signed a new long-term contract following an impressive start to the current season.

The deal, which will keep Duran at Villa Park until 2030, comes after the Colombian striker’s standout performances, including six goals this season and a crucial strike in the club’s 1-0 Champions League win against Bayern Munich last week.

Despite reportedly agreeing personal terms with West Ham during the summer transfer window, Duran chose to remain with Villa, where he has started only once in all competitions but has proven himself as a key player.

Duran originally joined the Premier League side in January 2023 from MLS team Chicago Fire, scoring five goals in 23 league appearances last season, most of which were from the bench.

His new contract solidifies his future at Aston Villa and highlights the club’s confidence in his potential to continue delivering on the big stage.

Following last week’s win against Bayern, Villa boss Unai Emery said the player’s potential was “huge”.

“Sometimes he has been impatient and I need to speak to him as a person and connect to him as a person,” he said.

“As well as a player to try to let him play, putting him on the field because his talent is there and the capacity to help us.”

Villa are fifth in the Premier League table after seven games, four points behind leaders Liverpool.
