One feared dead, scores injured as explosion rocks Delta

A devastating explosion in Sapele Metropolis, Delta State, has claimed the life of one person and left several others seriously injured.

The tragic incident occurred around 6 PM on Tuesday at a local dump site, a popular spot for scavengers searching for scrap materials.

According to eyewitness reports, the explosion was likely triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) unknowingly brought to the site by one of the scavengers, who tragically lost his life in the blast. At least two others, along with nearby residents, sustained severe injuries.

“They are currently receiving medical treatment,” one of the eyewitnesses confirmed, describing the somber atmosphere that has overtaken the area following the explosion.

The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, as authorities work to investigate the cause of the deadly blast.
