The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to expedite the transmission of the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly.

This resolution followed a motion moved by Akwa Ibom lawmaker, Clement Jimbo, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Jimbo highlighted the importance of adhering to Section 11(1b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2027, which requires the submission of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) at least four months before the start of the financial year.

He expressed concern that the president had not yet transmitted both the MTEF and the 2025 budget proposal.

The lawmaker stressed that timely submission is crucial for the National Assembly to fulfill its constitutional duty of overseeing the use of appropriated funds and ensuring that budgetary processes adhere to established timelines.

Following the debate, the motion was passed by a voice vote, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas directed the committees on national planning, appropriation, and finance to ensure compliance within two weeks.
