A devastating incident struck Nibo, a community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Sunday, as at least 16 people, mostly youths, were reportedly killed by gunmen.

The violence, suspected to be a result of a cult clash, has sent shockwaves through the area.

Videos circulating online show gruesome scenes of bodies lying on the ground, with social media users warning others to stay away from the community. One Facebook user urged, “Please avoid Nibo today. Many feared dead already. They said it’s cult clash. Our youths are dying in their numbers.”

Another witness, Ifeyinwa Okeke, shared that the emergency ward at Amaku Teaching Hospital, Awka, is overwhelmed with victims from the clash, describing the situation as “terrible.”

At the time of this report, authorities have not yet made an official statement regarding the tragedy.
