EFCC re-arraigns ex-Kwara Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed over N5.78bn fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refiled 14 fresh charges against former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed, and his Finance Commissioner, Ademola Banu, over an alleged N5.78 billion fraud.
The case, now before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court, involves the alleged diversion and misappropriation of public funds meant for state projects and security.
The charges include allegations of diverting funds meant for teachers’ salaries and state security.
The EFCC accused Ahmed of spending over N1.6 billion on private jets, in violation of Section 22(5) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges and were granted bail of N100 million each.
Trial is set to begin on December 4 and 5, 2024.
