Kano Govt withdraws accreditation of 14 journalists covering gov’t house

The Kano State Government has withdrawn the accreditation of 14 journalists assigned to cover activities at the Government House.

In a message sent to the affected journalists, the spokesperson for the state governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, instructed them to return to their respective media organizations for replacements.

While no official reason was provided for the decision, Dawakin Tofa alluded to “recent developments” in a message shared on the press crew’s WhatsApp platform.

The withdrawal has raised questions about the government’s relationship with the media, though further details are expected as the situation unfolds.

“Gentlemen of the press,” he wrote, “Permit me to thank all of you for a job well done in the last one year and few months. Unfortunately, while I was away to the Republic of Serbia last week, some issues happened and the leadership needed to take a decision at this critical time.”

The statement listed the 14 journalists affected, including directors, producers, and cameramen from various media organizations.

Among those named are:Aliyu Yusuf, Director Public Enlightenment- Sani Suraj Abubakar, PRO- Adamu Dabo, Chairman Crew – FRCN- Naziru Yau, ARTV- Sadiq Sani AA, ARTV- Rabiu Sunusi, Triumph and Umar Sheka, Freedom Radio.

Others are:Jabir Dan’abba, Nasara radio, Labaran,Sound operator,Simon, AIT Cameraman- Nasiru Danhaki, NTA,Abdullahi Sule, Driver, Murtala Baba Kusa, Express radio and Ibrahim Muazzam, Radio Kano.
