BREAKING: Over 40 trapped as building collapses in Abuja: rescue efforts underway
In the early hours of Saturday, a building under construction collapsed in Abuja’s Sabon Lugbe area, leaving at least 40 people trapped under the rubble.
Emergency responders, along with local sympathizers, are currently on-site, working tirelessly to rescue those caught beneath the debris.
Witnesses have called for increased support from government agencies to bolster the ongoing rescue mission, as the situation remains critical. The incident has highlighted urgent safety concerns in construction practices, as community members and officials strive to prevent further tragedies.
“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” an eyewitness said.

This incident comes just weeks after a section of a two-storey residential building collapsed in Abuja’s Kubwa area. In that case, four people were rescued, while an unconfirmed number of others were initially feared trapped. The Kubwa building was located close to Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way.
