The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has suspended a teacher from Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, following allegations that his disciplinary actions led to the death of an SS2 student, Master Monday Arijo, on Friday.

The teacher, who allegedly beat and punished the student, has been detained, and the school’s Principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, faces disciplinary scrutiny for permitting corporal punishment, which is prohibited in Ogun State.

The Ministry promptly issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Mrs. Onaolapo to justify her actions and explain why she should not face further disciplinary measures for disregarding established regulations against corporal punishment.

A letter of condolence, signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, was sent to Master Monday’s family, expressing profound sorrow for their loss. The letter praised the late student as an exceptional pupil and offered prayers for comfort and strength for the grieving family, as well as peace for his departed soul.
