IGP halts special promotions in police
IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has announced the immediate suspension of special promotions in the police, citing that it is endangering the careers of officers.
The IGP, who was evidently enraged by the extent to which certain officers go to lobby for special promotions, stated that, from this point forward, anyone who is recommended for special promotions by those in positions of authority will be subject to disciplinary action.
Egbetokun also said when the need arises for any officer to be promoted specially, the issue will be handled by the police management.
He also banned undue soliciting for posting, warning that anyone found guilty of this act will be dealt with in accordance with the law of the Force.
Egbetokun made the declarations at the decoration ceremony of 15 senior police officers, who were recently promoted from their former ranks to new ranks.
Those newly decorated include one Deputy Inspector-General of Police; 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 15 Commissioners of Police.
