APC sweeps Cross River LG polls, wins all 18 Chairmanship seats
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Cross River State local government elections, winning all 18 chairmanship positions.
The elections, held on Saturday, November 2, saw APC candidates triumph in areas including Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Ogoja, and more.
Dr. Ekong Boco, Chairman of the Cross River State Electoral Commission and the returning officer for the election, announced the results on Sunday, November 3, at the Commission’s headquarters in Calabar.
Certificates of Return were promptly issued to the winners.
Governor Bassey Otu congratulated the newly elected leaders and commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.
He encouraged the incoming local government chairpersons to uphold his “people’s first” agenda in their new roles.
He said, “We have a well-defined vision for the state, and we believe the new leadership at the local government level would understand that they must align with the state government’s agenda and exhibit unwavering dedication to realizing good governance.”
Nine opposition parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, participated in the elections but did not field candidates across all 196 local council wards in the state’s 18 local government areas.
