Adamawa police arrest man for allegedly killing his 3-day-old baby
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old, Aliyu Yaro, for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby boy.
The suspect, who hails from Kwacham Ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, of murdering their newborn just days after his birth.
During police interrogations, Aliyu confessed to the crime and led authorities to the burial site, where the infant’s remains were exhumed.
According to his statement, Aliyu impregnated Safiya, and after she gave birth, she repeatedly contacted him, asking him to take responsibility for their child.
On the night of the incident, Aliyu visited Safiya’s home, where he sent her on an errand to fetch water.
Taking advantage of her absence, he left with the baby. He later admitted to burying the infant’s body alone around 9:00 p.m. in the Girpata area of Mubi.
Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo expressed deep concern over the incident and directed that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
