Doko sets record as youngest African scrabble champion
Oluwatimilehin Doko, a 24-year-old member of Team Ogun, has made history as the youngest champion of the African Scrabble Championship, representing Nigeria in Kigali, Rwanda.
Doko’s remarkable victory came after an intense final showdown, where he defeated fellow Ogun State player Mumeen Jimoh with an impressive 574-442 score in round 31, securing an unassailable 24-win tally.
Doko, an undergraduate from the University of Lagos, dominated the tournament with a record of 25 wins, 7 losses, and a cumulative 2244 points, marking his rise to the top of African scrabble.
His teammate Jimoh also showcased skill and resilience, finishing fourth overall with 21 wins.
Other Ogun State players also made significant impacts. David Ojih, the current African Youth Champion, finished sixth, while African Games gold medallist Adebisi Adekansi claimed the first runner-up spot.
Nigerian Mayuku Tuoyo emerged as the tournament’s top player, demonstrating the strength of Nigeria’s representation in African scrabble.
Cyril Umebiye, Samuel Adebola, and Olamide Oyejide were also key players in Team Ogun’s stellar performance at the championship, highlighting Ogun State’s dominance in African scrabble.
