Tinubu confers GCON honour on Indian PM Narendra Modi during state visit
During his state visit to Nigeria on Sunday, November 17, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), the country’s second highest national honor, from President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu praised Modi as a “friend of Nigeria” while presenting the award. The announcement was shared by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, via a post on the X platform.
The post reads: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Honours Prime Minister #narendramodi.
“Confers him with Nigeria’s second highest honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) declares him friend of Nigeria.”
This historic gesture highlights the significance of the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and India, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
