‘How ‘Hijack 93’ lead role catapulted me to stardom’ – Nnamdi Agbo
Talented actor Nnamdi Agbo has seen his career soar to new heights following his remarkable portrayal of Skipper in the Netflix Original historical drama Hijack 93, which premiered on October 25 to widespread acclaim.
The film revisits the dramatic Nigerian hijacking event of 1993, infused with suspense and historical significance, telling the story of four teenage boys who hijacked a Nigerian Airways plane in protest against the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections.
Agbo’s powerful performance has resonated with audiences worldwide, contributing to the film’s massive success.
‘Hijack 93’ has amassed 3.2 million views and secured the 9th spot in Netflix Nigeria’s top 10 list during its debut week, cementing Nnamdi’s place as one of the most promising actors of his generation.
His portrayal has not only reshaped his career but also earned him a dedicated fanbase around the globe.
Recalling his role in the movie, in a chat with NollyNow, the Enugu State-born actor said starring in ‘Hijack ‘93’ was a defining moment for him. Being his first lead role in the Netflix Original, Agbo said the producers gave him the platform to showcase his talent to the world.
His words: “For a long time that I have been acting, people would say to me they are good. But acting in ‘Hijack 93’, I showed the world the stuff I was made of. After the premiere of the movie till now, I still receive messages of commendations from fans all over the world.
“A producer from India described me as a great actor. That showed that my career was blossoming. I am getting more acknowledgment from my pals and colleagues. Even Producers and directors have already taken notice of me and my career is already skyrocketing after the role I played in ‘Hijack 93’.
“It’s a blessing to see that I am being acknowledged by people in the movie industry. At the same time, I understand that now that fame has come, more eyes are on me and it’s time for me to work harder. Fame is a platform for me to create something big that will impact the next generation.”
A graduate of Theatre and Film from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nnamdi Agbo made his acting debut in 2016, after starring in his short movie, “‘Okega’.
In 2017, he was awarded a scholarship to attend film school at CinéFabrique, Lyon, France, by the Africa International Film Festival, AFRIFF, after being named the best acting student. His talent has also been recognized at the EbonyLife Creative Academy, where he was listed among the Top 3 best male actors in 2022.
