Gov Nwifuru suspends commissioner over gross misconduct, three others in one week
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Uchenna Igwe, over allegations of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties.
The announcement came during a media briefing, where Nwifuru cited Igwe’s failure to oversee the timely payment of local government pensions by council chairmen.
This latest suspension marks the fourth within a week. On November 25, 2024, Nwifuru indefinitely suspended Chinedu Nkah, Commissioner for Water Resources, alongside Housing Commissioner Francis Ori and Health Commissioner Dr. Moses Ekuma, who were both suspended for three months.
In addition, senior officials in the Ministry of Health, including the Permanent Secretary, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency, were also suspended for three months on November 24.
The governor’s decisive actions signal a renewed emphasis on accountability and effective governance in Ebonyi State.
