BREAKING: Borno Deputy Governor, over 100 passengers escape death in Max Air mishap
Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, and over 100 passengers narrowly avoided tragedy on Wednesday when a Max Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja experienced an engine fire caused by a bird strike shortly after takeoff.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m., approximately 10 minutes into the flight. The pilot, demonstrating quick thinking, safely executed an emergency landing back at Maiduguri International Airport.
A Max Air staff member confirmed that the bird strike led to the engine failure, emphasizing the crew’s swift response in ensuring passenger safety.
Following the emergency landing, many passengers, shaken by the ordeal, chose to collect their luggage and return home. However, Max Air arranged an alternative flight from Kano for those willing to continue their journey, including the Deputy Governor.
The damaged aircraft remains grounded at Maiduguri Airport, undergoing repairs. Investigations are ongoing to determine further details of the incident. Airport authorities have assured the public of their commitment to passenger safety and commended the crew’s professionalism in managing the situation.
