A violent conflict between Tiv and Fulani tribes in Taraba State has claimed the lives of at least five persons on Saturday.

The conflict took place in Maraban Azagwa, which is in the Maihula region of Bali Local Government region.

Sources indicate that the clash was triggered by the death of a Fulani man at a local beer joint owned by a Tiv man. Relatives of the deceased Fulani man accused the Tiv community of being responsible for his death, leading to the confrontation.

According to reports from Daily Trust, five individuals lost their lives, and several others were injured on both sides. The situation in the area has since calmed following the deployment of police forces, although the area remains largely deserted.

DSP Kwache Gambo, the acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, confirmed the incident.

She noted that two people were killed and several others injured. Those injured are currently receiving treatment. DSP Gambo also mentioned that police operatives have been deployed to the area, and the situation is now relatively calm.
