Pandemonium as OPC, motorcycle riders clash in Ado-Ekiti

Tension erupted in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday as members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and motorcycle riders engaged in a violent clash over the alleged death of a motorcycle ticketing officer near the Atikankan area of the Ekiti State capital.

The confrontation, which involved the use of dangerous weapons like cutlasses and knives, left several people injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the unrest began when motorcycle riders accused an OPC member of being responsible for the ticketing officer’s death.

The Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command intervened promptly to restore order in the affected area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, CSP Abutu Sunday, stated that six suspects had been arrested in connection with the clash.

He said: “Today being 09/01/2025 at about 11:20hrs, the Command received a distress call that some hoodlums were attacking and robbing innocent people in Atikankan Area of Ado-Ekiti.

“The operatives of the RRS were deployed to the axis where six of the suspects were arrested.

“They are currently undergoing investigation. Effort is underway to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.”
