In a tragic incident on Saturday, members of the notorious Lakurawa armed group launched an unprovoked attack in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, claiming the lives of two immigration officers and one civilian.

According to an anonymous source, the officers were stationed at a location designated for the installation of border-monitoring equipment when the gunmen struck unexpectedly.

The victims’ bodies were transported to Sir Yahya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi around 2 p.m., where a Hilux vehicle containing the remains attracted a somber crowd. Immigration officers guarding the vehicle declined to speak to the press.

Efforts to reach Kebbi State Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar and his counterpart from the Immigration Service were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered.

As of press time, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor the Kebbi State Police Command had issued an official statement regarding the attack.

The Lakurawa group, notorious for its recurrent violent activities in the region, continues to pose a grave security challenge, raising concerns about the safety of border personnel and residents in Kebbi State.
