Background

Born in Anambra State on July 28, 1960, Soludo was raised in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

Soludo was a senior prefect at Uga Boys High School in his village at the time.

He continued his studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State, where he earned a doctorate in 1989, a master’s degree in 1987, and first-class honors in economics in 1984.

With these degrees, he was appointed to the UNN faculty and served as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania (USA).

Career

He has provided consulting services to numerous international organizations, such as the United Nations Development Programme, the World Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Soludo possesses a fundamental understanding of macroeconomics.

As a visiting scholar, Soludo has held positions at the International Monetary Fund, Brookings Institution, University of Warwick, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and Swarthmore College (USA).

Chukwuma’s experience includes training in multi-country macro-econometric modeling, survey methodology, computable general equilibrium modeling techniques, and panel data econometrics, among other areas. She has also participated in research, teaching, and auditing in these areas.

He studied and taught these courses at several universities, including Warwick, Oxford, and Cambridge. Soludo has written several books on this topic in addition to co-editing and co-authoring others.

After joining the federal government in 2003, Soludo worked for President Olusegun Obasanjo as his principal economic advisor.

In 2004, after holding the position of Chief Executive at the Nigerian National Planning Commission, he was named Chairman of CBN.

According to a statement on the CBN official page, he spearheaded the creation of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a continental investment bank driven by the private sector, and contributed to the restructuring of the banking industry in a number of ways during his time as chairman of the CBN.

Politics

He entered politics on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and announced his intention to run for the state of Anambra’s governorship in 2009, but he was defeated in the polls.

In July 2013, he left the People’s Democratic Party and became a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in time for the state’s November 2013 governorship election.

President Muhammadu Buhari named Soludo to the newly established eight-member Economic Advisory Council on September 16, 2019, with the expectation that the council would answer directly to the president.

In February 2021, Soludo formally declared his candidacy for governor of Anambra State under the APGA banner.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Soludo the victor of the Anambra state gubernatorial election on November 9, 2021.

On November 13, 2021, he received a certificate of return, and in March of 2022, he took the oath of office as the fifth governor of Anambra state.
