A massive fire outbreak devastated the Satigal Community in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of several homes, cattle, and six grain silos.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Rano Zonal Information Officer, Rabiu Kura, disclosed that the fire caused significant damage to properties and livelihoods.

“The incident was reported to the Emir of Rano, Dr. Muhammad Umaru, at his palace.

According to the Village Head, Shuaibu Abdu, who led a delegation of community leaders, the fire engulfed the entire residence housing six households, destroying goods, grains, cattle, and personal belongings worth millions of naira.

“The midnight inferno was reportedly caused by a cooking fire left unattended by one of the affected families,” the statement said.

The Emir of Rano, Muhammad Umaru, expressed his sympathy to the victims and donated ₦200,000 to support them.

He also urged the community to exercise caution and ensure that cooking fires are extinguished immediately after use.

“The monarch has promised to report the incident to the Kano State Emergency Relief Management Agency for immediate assistance,” the statement added.

However, when contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi said the agency has yet to receive a report from the area.

“We are not aware of the incident as we have not received a report on the incident from the area,” Abdullahi said.
