The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that there will be no fresh South-South zonal congress for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the one held on Saturday in Calabar, Cross River State.

Speaking at the event, Wike dismissed any objections to the congress, stating that no congress or convention has ever recorded full delegate participation. He urged party members to elect officials who will protect and strengthen the PDP.

“The South-South Zone is the strongest zone of the PDP in Nigeria. There is no part of the constitution that says a congress should be postponed because of a wedding or travel plans,” Wike said. “I want to assure you that this is the final zonal congress of the South-South Zone. After today’s election, no other zonal congress will hold.”

The minister also emphasized the need for unity within the party, warning against intimidation and urging members to remain vigilant in selecting their leaders.

Meanwhile, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has distanced itself from the congress, further deepening tensions within the party.
