Carabao Cup: Newcastle end 70-year wait with 2-1 win over Liverpool

Newcastle United ended their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy and secured their first major title since 1969 with a well-earned victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
The Magpies’ faithful erupted in celebration as goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed a momentous win, cementing manager Eddie Howe and his squad’s place in club history.
Burn, fresh off his first England call-up, broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time with a powerful header from Kieran Trippier’s corner.
Seven minutes after the restart, Isak capitalized on Jacob Murphy’s knockdown, slotting home clinically to put Newcastle firmly in control.
Liverpool, who were knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by Paris St-Germain in midweek, pulled a goal back through substitute Federico Chiesa in injury time.
Newcastle, however, survived a tense finish to clinch their first major silverware since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 and first domestic success since the 1955 FA Cup.
