We are not aware of why Nigerians are planning protest – APC Govs
Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed confusion over the reasons for a planned nationwide protest set for August 1 to August 10, 2024.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) in Abuja, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, stated, “We don’t know what they are protesting for. We invite all of them to sit down with us in a room so we can discuss and agree on the issues, what they are and proffer solutions.”
Uzodimma emphasized the forum’s commitment to the country’s unity and the improvement of Nigerians’ lives, focusing on creating jobs and prosperity. He advised against the planned protest, citing concerns over national unity and security. “We think it is not wise at this moment for any demonstration by any group of persons be it in whatever guise,” he said.
The governor also urged patience from Nigerians, reassuring them that the government is working to alleviate the economic hardships currently faced. He pointed to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity, address national minimum wage concerns, and ensure food security.
Uzodimma warned against the instigation of chaos by any group, especially considering the numerous challenges Nigeria has endured, including global economic recession, insecurity, and political tension.
He called for patriotism, urging citizens to take ownership of the country and work together for its betterment, stating, “We have no other country we can call our own outside Nigeria.”
