Born in Koyar Getso, Old Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State, on September 23, 1960.

He attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he earned a textile engineering degree.

He finished his elementary and secondary education in 1977 and 1982, respectively, at Gwarzo Day Primary School and Science Secondary School, Dawakin Kudu.

Along with his academic pursuits, he completed the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program at Delta State’s Asaba Textile Industry.

Personal life

He is married to Bilkisu Usman, a practicing Muslim, and the two of them have children together.

Politics

Abdullahi Gwarzo joined the political scene in 1991 and was elected to the position of chairman of the Gwarzo local government council in 1993, following the Social Democratic Party’s platform.

He held the same position under the United Nigeria Congress Party (NCPN) from 1997 to 1998 as late General Abacha’s administration transitioned to a civilian one.

He was special adviser to the Kano state government from 2004 to 2007 and then the state’s deputy governor from 2007 to 2011, when he defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and ran for governor but was unsuccessful.

He was named chairman of the Federal College of Education in Zaria’s governing council in 2021.

Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the position of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
